Six years ago Compaq made a decision to quit doing any serious ASIC design in house, and basically become a marketing organization I think you forgot about the Tandem purchase... Tandem Labs, ServerNet ASICs, the LAN collaboration with Intel. Oh, Gosh, we forgot about the Alpha team!!! Maybe they do some design work too... I think it's some kind of CPU design work <GG>. I suspect that their acquisitions put them back into the silicon design business pretty seriously. This is an interesting discussion but please think a little more before slamming out such stuff, it might make some readers wonder about the accuracy of other parts of your posts.
