MARGI Systems Announces DVD -to-Go Hardware DVD Option for Compaq Armada Notebooks

09/10/98 Business Wire (Copyright (c) 1998, Business Wire)

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 10, 1998--

MARGI's PC Card Will Bring Broadcast Quality DVD Video Playback
With Dolby Digital Surround Sound to Compaq's Entire Notebook Line

MARGI Systems, Inc., the premier developer of PCMCIA cards for the mobile computing market, today announced Compaq will offer MARGI's DVD -to-Go(TM) PC card as an optional upgrade for its Armada series of portable computers.
The DVD -to-Go(TM) PC Card integrates DVD decoding technology to bring full color, full motion broadcast quality DVD video playback and synchronized Dolby(R) Digital Surround Sound(TM) to any DVD equipped Zoomed Video (ZV) notebook.

Designed for mobile professionals, who use their notebooks for multimedia presentations, field force automation, interactive marketing or training applications, DVD -to-Go turns any ZV-compliant notebook equipped with a DVD drive into a mobile DVD player.

By using the card, DVD video streams are played back with full motion at 30 frames per second with full color and full screen, providing broadcast quality video and "better than CD" quality sound. DVD -to-Go also decodes Dolby Digital into a Dolby Surround compatible stereo output as well as DVD video to provide a total "theater" experience from a notebook.

"At Compaq, we continue to evaluate new mobile technologies that will meet customers' evolving needs for powerful, innovative and integrated multimedia solutions," said Ted Clark, vice president of marketing, Portable PC Division, Compaq Computer Corporation.

"MARGI's DVD -to-Go PC Card will help us deliver a mobile solution that features excellent multimedia functionality and desktop equivalent performance."

MARGI offers the most extensive line of PCMCIA Type II cards on the market today. In addition to DVD -to-Go, MARGI develops MPEG-to-Go(TM), offering full color, full motion video playback with CD quality sound; and Capture-to-Go(TM), which enables video recording, capture, editing and storage.

"This partnering will provide mobile professionals with the ultimate notebook computer," said Shrikant Acharya, president, MARGI Systems. "We believe Compaq's decision to offer DVD -to-Go options for its new notebook models demonstrates its dedication to bringing world-class multimedia solutions to market."
