Excellent post Peter; I wouldn't want to be shorting this stock at 16 when Ciena announces any new customers or contracts.

Maybe a meteor hits the planet next?

Ciena's CEO and Chairman are Ph'ds and understand the business and technology. This is no third rate high tech startup. Telabs will be stupid to not proceed with the deal in my opinion as they need the Ciena technology and customer base to survive. Otherwise, I guess they write a check for $100 million. Let's get on with it either way. This is the future and there is room for more than one supplier.

This deal is has to be reconsidered by TLAB based upon all the recent bad news. But keep this in mind
-All of the big arbs are out they and it will take allot to get them back in (thus wide spread until the cos. clarify the deal)
-As of 6/30 TLAB owns 6.5% of the company at an ave total price over 200MIL higher (let them explain that to shareholders)
-TLAB CEO owns 1/2 of the voting shares and he wants the deal.
-100MIL breakup fee
-no fraud here just some bad news
-TLAB had to have known most of the picture.
-lost 50% of 100MIL$ contract over 3 years. Bad news but not the end of the world.
-general market looks bad.

all in
30% scrap deal (CIEN 9-15$)
25% new price (.6 maybe)
45% deal goes through

Odds are in your favor
