I don't buy that. The browser is to the internet as a key is to a lock. Of course browsers and the internet are more complex. But I use this analogy to illustrate that any locksmith can make a key. Owning A key does not preclude the use of other keys. Giving away the key does not leverage the giver into having greater control over the lock, or over the process of using the lock.

An OS, on the other hand, is a building. It is a structured framework within which many keys and locks operate. There is an element of control attached to ownership of the framework which can be leveraged to produce multiple revenue streams selling keys and locks.

controlling the browser, much like Microsoft controls the OS, the browser-dominant company has an
insurmountable lead over all competitors.
