TADIRAN SCOPUS LAUNCHES ITS THIRD
GENERATION OF CODICOr

September 11, 1998, Amsterdam - Tadiran Scopus launches the third generation of its digital video compression product line, the CODICOr at IBC'98 exhibition, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The new generation is based on more than 15 years of Tadiran Scopus experience in Digital Video Compression and has been developed to provide a wide range of products to meet the requirements of the TV broadcasting community.

The CODICOr third generation includes six major product families: the E-1000 encoders, the RTM-3600 multiplexers, the IRD-2500 Integrated Receiver Decoder, the NMS-4000, the CAS 5000 and the IP over a DVB platform.

Emphasis was made on the CODICOr Encoder product family - which now shares a new mechanical 1 unit rack mounted design. The CODICOr E-1000 encoder product family includes the E-1000 commercial encoder at 4:2:0 profile which has an optional upgrade to 4:2:2 profile and the professional E-1100 encoder 4:2:0/4:2:2 profile which includes a superb video pre-processor.

Another major change was made in the CODICOr IRD, Integrated Receiver Decoder, product family when three new types of IRDs were introduced: the commercial IRD-2500, the professional IRD-2510 and the custom made IRD-2520. The IRD-2500 product series has various receiving front ends for satellite, cable and telecom reception.

In the multiplexing field, Tadiran Scopus is presenting the CODICOr RTM-3600, Statistical Muliplexer Remultiplexer. The new multiplexer provides cost-effective multiplexing and efficient re-multiplexing processing capability. A statistical multiplexing mode is provided for channel bit-rate optimization. The RTM-3600 has advanced features such as handling 15 MPEG-2 transport streams, operating up to 65 Mbps and a built-in DVB scrambler. Further, the RTM-3600 supports various major conditional access systems.

As for system management, monitoring and control, Tadiran Scopus is presenting the CODICOr NMS-4000 Network Management System. The NMS-4000 provides an easy to use, flexible and comprehensive solution for system monitoring and controlling of the digital head-end components. Advanced program scheduler as well as over the air control and software download for Tadiran Scopus IRD's are amongst the NMS-4000 most sophisticated features.

For commercial digital TV networks, using MPEG-2 DVB platforms, the CODICOr CAS-5000 Conditional Access System is an ideal solution for scrambling and access control. The CAS-5000 is an excellent system solution for the protection and access control for information. It provides addressability and authorization to subscribers on an individual or group basis at any allocated time slot. The CAS-5000 ensures a high level of security from piracy for individual as well as for a group of subscribers.

The transmission of IP over a DVB platform, enables further utilization of the CODICOr product line. At the transmission head-end, there is the CODICOr IGW-600, an IP Gateway combining network access and conversion to the DVB transport stream format. The headends site also includes Network Management Support (NMS) and Central Control Unit (CCU). At the subscriber's end, a PC plug-in board/modem is provided: either an IP satellite modem, the CODICOr ISM-600 or an IP cable modem, the CODICOr ICM-600. The return path is based on traditional telephone modem lines.

The third generation product line is fully compatible with the previous CODICOr product line generation.

Tadiran Scopus was formed in 1995 as a fully owned subsidiary of Tadiran Ltd., Israel's largest electronics company (NYSE:TAD), with annual sales exceeding $1.1 billion (1997). Backed by 15 years of extensive research, experience in algorithm development and production of proprietary encoding and decoding products, Tadiran Scopus has developed CODICOr , a unique line of broadcast commercial products based on the MPEG-2 and DVB international standards.

The launch and a live demonstration of the third generation products will be at:

IBC '98, RAI Exhibition Center, Amsterdam, The Netherlands,
Hall 11, Booth No 547, from September 11-15.
