I'm no George Mitchell fan per say and agree with you 100% in your assessment of his partisanship in a leadership role. But I brought his name up as a possible VP because he is no longer an elected official and does not appear to have any further political ambition. This position will be filled by a caretaker.

I like Moynihan and admire his intellect if not his party affiliation. I don't think it will be him however because he brings some personal baggage. He also has a somewhat difficult image for most of the country, he comes of very much as what he is a bright, over educated, intellectual New Yorker which rarely sells well with the nation as a whole. Mitchell on the other hand comes across very smooth and soothing, something that always put me off (but then I'm a New Yorker <g>).

Another name that might come up would be Joe Lieberman of Connecticut.
