paul,

>> There were a lot of crappy products out on the market that Microsoft improved on.

DOS, Word 1.0, Excel 1.0, Windows 1.0, MSFT C, MSFT Basic, MSFT Fortran, MS OS/2, MSFT Assembler, Internet Explorer, MSN...just to name the ones I've used for 15 years.

Every company that has had its software products survive for the last 15 years have developed better products. Microsoft is a marketing miracle like McDonald's; neither is a product innovator. The product is not designed for quality but profitability hence their high margins.

Cheers,

Norm
