Jim, Fred is a bottom fisher, but he hasn't bought yet. He is playing Novell based upon the fact that Microsoft cannot get its act together on the next version of No Tasks. I think the announcement by Compaq that they will share DEC technology with MSFT to make NT halfway decent hurts that thesis.

Lam is basically a buy for its cash story. I don't have a problem with the vulture concept, but I don't find Lam compelling. Sybase is one I've played in the last year and did very well with on the upside. It is now near the old low and I think it has a chance for a Phoenix rebirth.

Cabletron is a takeover story and one I think will happen. Fred mentions CPQ as a possible acquirer, but I think they have their hands full losing money on DEC. But CS fits for anyone wanting to go into competition with Cisco.

I have no problem with any of these stocks on a relative basis. But, on an absolute basis, there is good reason to wait.
