I don't believe this statement is completely accurate. Sure, DE Shaw won't tell you how their model works, but many very successful trading strategies are not so secretive or complex. Jeff Cooper wrote an excellent book on trading, as did Jack Schwager and John Murphy. There comes a point in some traders' lives to write about what they have done.
