Remember July 1996? Market was in a funk, investors were jittery, and Intel was feared to miss its numbers. Well, Intel beat the number handily, and single-handedly fixed the ENTIRE DAMN MARKET. The market shot up from there and didn't look back until the next time it got in a funk. (of course the awesome 1996 tech winter was followed by the 1997 disappointments that have persisted until, well, now)

Don't underestimate the market power of Intel. GE doesn't hurt either.

Dell is amazing. I'm sure they'll be a Harvard B School case study soon, if not already.

Check this out, the DVD has gone tornado! Time to figure out where the investment opportunities are to harness this beast:

Blockbuster to rent DVD flicks
news.com

The move could encourage sales of both stand-alone DVD players and PCs with DVD drives and curtail sales of competing technologies.

Duh!

...will offer rentals of DVD players from Philips Electronics and conduct in-store demonstrations of the technology to drive demand.

Brilliant! A good demo is the best marketing tool ever devised.

Blockbuster said in most cases, DVD rentals would be priced similarly to video rentals...

Ladies and gentlemen of the thread, I say to you, in three years videotapes will be dead. Let's figure out how to saddle this beast for a little high-yield.

Here's a few ideas:
1. Creative Labs (CREAF), maker of the currently best-selling "Dxr2" DVD upgrade for PCs. Currently trading near 53-low, profitable, several other strong products on the shelf including the best-selling "Sound Blaster Live" 3D audio and Dolby surround decoder, and the "3D Voodoo Blaster" a best-selling 3D accerater board. Damn, I think I just sold myself on this stock. A little DD and then time to start placing buy orders!

2. I think this will be good for the storage sector, indirectly. DVD availability => DVD drive sales => increasing DVD drive installed base => software distribution via DVD => HDD capacity demand shift
