Greetings Simon.

Given the big stack of TDFX in my portfolio, I can't truthfully say I'm happy to BE back. <grimace>

Rush wasn't all 3Dfx.

This is true. However here are the uncontestable FACTS:
1. Rush IS a 3Dfx product, regardless of the components that comprise it.
2. Rush IS a failure.

Do you think Compaq WOULDN'T get dinged if they shipped PCs with bad Western Digital HDDs?

The retail public seems to have forgiven and forgotten Rush, judging by the success of V2. However I guarantee you OEMs haven't forgotten.

Re: RIVA 128
Let me cite Michael's original comment:
Without a track record in the area, OEM's would be foolish to give a contract to an unproven design, by a company new to the field.

My point is, the RIVA 128 was a huge success in OEM land. AT THE TIME, it WAS a _relatively_ unproven design AND by a company new to the field.

That said, I think Banshee will be at least moderately successful. It has been well aimed at a good target market, and it is backed by the reputation of V2 and 3Dfx. However I think TACTICALLY 3Dfx as a company would be better positioned today if they had not delayed Banshee in order to get the V2 out early. If Banshee had come out 6 months ago, 3Dfx would have this whole industry buttoned up TIGHT. If if if if.
