He shook my hand and started to walk away. I hesitated for a moment, and then, running after him on the well-manicured lawns, asked for his address. Javed did not look up from the grass. I think I heard him let out a sigh. "Anyway, God willing, I will be moving to Canada," he said. "What's the use?" It has been my experience that the Pakistanis and Indians socialize with each other at least in the work place in foreign countries. My mother and I went to 2 different Pakistani doctors for treatment. Wonderful doctors. treated us well. No problem. I have also noticed that some but not all Indian Muslims socialized better with their Pakistani counterparts/brethren. nothing wrong with that. It is the freedom of association, that I respect more than the nationhood of socializing persons. On the same note Pakistani Hindus moved equally well with their countrymen and Indians. This pakistani Hindu doctor who shares office with a Muslim doctor took care of my neice. Coming to your story, it seems that the Pakistani has set his eyes on Canada and everything else went blank. Obviously it seems that more pakistanis want to leave pakistan than Indians wanting to leave India. JPR
