Below are some examples of how
Cloverleaf finance is being used by HIE
Banking & Finance clients.

Price feeds: Cloverleaf finance is being used to process securities
tapes on a daily basis. The relevant securities information is
extracted, reformatted and written to a relational database (Sybase)
in the format required by the client's various application systems. In
a similar fashion, a leading Investment Bank in Johannesburg uses
Cloverleaf finance to process an on-line price feed produced by the
Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JetFeed). This constant stream of
data is reformatted and distributed to a number of the client's
business applications either by direct transfer (TCP/IP) or by
delivering the price data to files and databases in the format required
by the various systems.

Database Synchronization: Cloverleaf finance was used by an
Investment Bank to help reduce the number of Counter-party
databases maintained within their systems from four to two. One of
the databases that had to be retained was a proprietary database
central to their AS/400-based Equation banking system. The other
three were processed by a number of in-house systems now
populated by Cloverleaf finance. The counter-party information was
extracted from all the existing databases, reformatted and inserted
into the newly designed Party database using Microsoft SQL Server
running under Windows NT. Once the new database had been
created, Cloverleaf finance was then used to keep the new database
and the Equation files in sync by detecting any changes on either
side, reformatting the data accordingly, and then updating the other
system.

Front-Office/Back-Office Integration: A leading Polish Investment
Bank has deployed Cloverleaf finance as an online data transfer and
re-formatting mechanism between its newly installed Reuters
Kondor+ deal capture system and its existing IBM AS/400-based
IBIS/AS back-office system. The Cloverleaf finance implementation
enabled the bank to take a process involving a new front end
application, a legacy back end application, and a lot of manual
''rework," and turn it into an automated process allowing data
entered into the front end system to be reformatted, enriched and
inserted into the processing undertaken by the legacy back office
system.

A leading UK-based Investment Bank is using Cloverleaf finance to
distribute and reformat data within its network of interacting
systems. Over the years the client has built up a complex set of data
flows between its applications systems - some built in-house and
some third-party proprietary software. Cloverleaf finance manages
the flow of transactional data during the day in real-time, and also
synchronizes much of the overnight file transfers that are
time-and-event driven as the various streams reach certain points in
their end of day processes.

External Gateways-S.W.I.F.T.: In addition to the normal data
transfer and connectivity benefits that Cloverleaf finance brings to a
client as a systems integration toolkit, Cloverleaf finance's ability to
parse and build S.W.I.F.T. messages has allowed a number of clients
to use Cloverleaf finance to increase their Straight Through
Processing (STP) capabilities.

Cloverleaf finance processes the client's data, generates the
appropriate S.W.I.F.T. messages in the required format, and delivers
them to the S.W.I.F.T. Alliance gateway for dispatch to the
S.W.I.F.T. network. Similarly, incoming S.W.I.F.T. messages are
routed, copied and reformatted, as required, to the appropriate client
applications.

This capability allows reformatting to S.W.I.F.T. standards and any
other similar S.W.I.F.T.-like implementations now being introduced in
various countries' national payment systems and local securities
settlement systems.

External Gateways-Electronic Trade Confirmation/Custodian: A
major vendor of Asset Management software is using Cloverleaf
finance as an integration tool to assist their clients in building links
between their own Electronic Trade Confirmation (ETC) sub-systems
and Custodians who are using their own proprietary formats and
protocols. Cloverleaf finance translates the vendor's internal formats
into those required by the Custodians and ensures a smooth and
integrated link between the Asset Manager and the Custodian,
without the need to change the vendor's application code.

provider to the mutual fund, insurance, and banking industries. Its applications
include mutual fund distribution products, record-keeping and administrative
systems, and work management and telephony products. Its clients include Janus
Capital and T. Rowe Price Corporation. The company has operations worldwide.

banking customers needing rapid application integration, and pairs Edify's
market-leading Electronic Banking System with HIE's message broker, OM3.
Customers will be able to seamlessly permit message-based connectivity of legacy
applications with the Electronic Banking System through this technology, releasing

Trace Computers PLC is a London-based software solution provider established in
1974. Its wholly owned subsidiary, Trace Financial Ltd., provides the Banking and
Securities industry with interfacing solutions and high volume, complex internal
system integration. These include external interfaces to the UK settlement systems
CREST and CGO, the S.W.I.F.T. network and Electronic Trade Confirmation (ETC)
for Brokers and Institutions.

Symmetry Software Services, Ltd. is a Bryanston, South Africa based software
solution provider established in 1985. Symmetry's Banking and Financial Services
Division provides solutions in the area of business process automation. They focus
on the financial services industry where the need for high levels of customer service
is a competitive advantage or where there is a need for exception management in
order to reduce costs and manage operational risk.

Examples of HIE in Finance & Banking
Conversational Data Exchange
This customer had a requirement to link together several regional processing
centers, systems within each regional center, and specialist departments at Head
Office. Most of the data that needed to be shared was not time sensitive, varying in
delivery between 2 -12 hours, and most was unidirectional in flow. All of these
messages needed to be guaranteed in their delivery and most needed data
transformation in order to be useful to the receiving systems. Since there were many
systems involved, the Bank wanted to avoid spaghetti interface code and the
problems of multiple point-to-point message standards. Using OM3 provides the
Bank with easy interfaces to its various and, in some cases exotic, systems. OM3's
hub architecture eases overall management of both the interfaces and the
transformation of messages into the various required standards. OM3 also
complements the guaranteed delivery of data, an extremely important consideration
in this environment, and the ability to set rules as to message filtering and to where
specific data within messages is sent. This last function alone saves the bank a
fortune in reduced satellite communications costs.

Critical Interactive Data Communications
As competition in banking heats up, institutions seek ways to serve their
customers better -- with online banking and improved ATM services. This client
was interested in routing and connectivity in these two places: (1) between their
World Wide Web site and their account applications, and (2) to feed information
between these account applications and a data warehouse that feed their ATMs.

The State of North Carolina, the Metro Dade/Miami Police
department, and the State of Ohio are among HIE's
government customers.

Examples of HIE in Government
Conversational Data Exchange
This State Government customer wanted to reduce the number of erroneous
payments to welfare recipients (for example, prisoners obtaining welfare
payments). In order to do this, the State needed to link Human Services
applications with Criminal Justice systems, Workers Compensation systems
and systems at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. These systems were
fundamentally different from one another; because they each had different IS
staffs and budgets, it was very important that the integration be as
non-invasive as possible. HIE's product provided a rapidly deployed
solution which was non-invasive and provided selective message routing
and transformation, enabling conversational communication between the
various applications. Human Services interacts with the ''validation
network" while working directly with welfare recipients, or when validating
claims in the back office.
