george, The nutcase has flooded the yahoo board with dozens of posts under the handles _hniman, hniman_, henryniman, henryniman_ and who knows what else. I suspect that the Courtney/r Peter dale group has really flipped out:

I don't condone what posters are doing...I merely think Doc's cybersleuthing efforts fit into the "who cares?" category. If he wants to continue it on Yoo Hoo, fine, go ahead (although IMHO that's fruitless and silly, as well). Absolutely no need to bring it to SI.

George, Actually the entire episode really began on SI. I think that most recall Courtney Willhere coming onto this thread about a year ago. It looked like Courtney Willhere and r peter dale were the same poster who would pump penny stocks by citing rumors on deals, relatives with inside info, and forming a mutual admiration society.
I asked them a few questions in Feb, and they abruptly left SI. However, they took up residence on the Yahoo using a wide variety of handles, many of which had the common element of sex=neuter in their profile.

Soon they were posting on the LGND board on Yahoo, initially expressing reservations about LGND and me. Their posts quickly escalated into LGND bashing on a grand scale. I went back to the r peter dale posts on SI to see which penny stocks he was hyping. When I looked at the threads on Yahoo, I found the sex=neuter crowd was posting big time. The LGND bashers were there along with several more. They would also go onto active boards such as INTC and post OT on a penny stock (UNVC and others) and comment to each other about how well the penny stocks were doing. UNVC seems to be under investigation by the FBI and its underwriter (UNVC went public last year) was fined over $16 million for defrauding investors.

The posting pattern is very obvious and I posted the details on the LGND board on Yahoo.

Now some nutcase is flooding the Yahoo board with posts using variations on my name. I have written Yahoo 4 times now and threatened legal action.

I think the story will make for quite interesting reading, and I think that the true identity of the sex=neuter gang will raise some eyebrows.

>> While I have in the past thought Henry should just give up on trying to do anything about various negative post I can see why he is concerned.

I agree. Unfortunately, the "Ignore Method" was never tried.

And it's now to the point where this "game" might not only embarrass Henry, but also make a laughing stock of our company. If the old method of resistance was futile, (See samples attached to George's message), it's time for a new strategy.
---------------

What's developed is a clear case of "Natural Consequences."

I learned this from raising kids (and volunteering in their schools):

If people "punch my buttons" and I over-react, and go into my frantic, screaming-meemie act, they will just LOVE that, and they will do it again. And again. And some more. And soon a crowd will form.

When someone punches my buttons, they have a desired result.
Stop giving them the desired result (the game's PAYOFF), and they won't enjoy punching my buttons anymore.
Finally, they will quit and go away. This does work. If I am consistent.
Eventually, when they discover I have no punchable buttons, they will cease to even try to get my goat. (I have not yet reached that stage of Nirvana.... But I'm working on it. So, however, are the kids. <G>)

But, play into their hand, be totally PREDICTABLE, and you see what develops.
---------------

It was FUN for them to see Henry rant and rave, and cast suspicion on tony, and speculate on "handles," and give long lists of links that ADVERTISE THEIR GAME.

So they did it more, and called their friends, and Henry even advertised the game all over the Web.

--------------------------------

Even if Yahoo WANTED to help (and why should they? The relentless free advertising of the "Niman Ligand Game" is probably generating record HITS for them -- something their paid advertizers just love), a wild site like Yahoo CANNOT provide any substantial help, IMO. All they can do is put up some sort of screen, some sort of defense. And we know, offense always quickly trumps defense. Fix one problem, and another will soon crop out -- so long as Henry Niman continues to provide the "PAYOFF" for the jokers' game.

But, since the game is NO FUN without Henry's participation, it seems worth a try to dry that up. What do you say, Henry?

Make an announcement:

Henry Niman speaking. Game over. This is September 11, 1998 at 9:00 AM EDT. I will have NOTHING further to say on this thread. Anyone speaking in a name similar to mine is an imposter. The Ligand-Niman Game is hereby cancelled for lack of interest. Over and Out.

Post it to the zero point, and to the end point.

Then mean it.
-----------------------

This would have worked a lot better at the start.
At the start, he could have simply ignored the trouble-makers, not "honored" them with recognition.

But now (though it might take a while to peter out), there's nothing to be gained by hanging around there.
And plenty to lose.
-----

IMO

Good Luck, Henry.

Cheryl
