Japan down 5%, back below 14,000. HK down 3% etc. etc. and report not even public yet. I'm not sure I can go to sleep, afraid what I might wake up to. Sounds like after Friday we may have a new tobacco warning:"cigar use might cause vaginal cancer and be fatal to your political health"

Marc: Re: "market future, I think the impeachment hearings will be a weight on the market but not an unsurmountable one if we have more positive earnings suggestions like INTC, ORCL and GE as well as Greenspan antsy enough to pull the trigger on the down side now if things get out of hand."

I agree to some extent that positive earnings are a good thing and that Greenspan is the man. But I doubt we will be going to new highs anytime soon with impeachment hearings. Foreign investors will stay away from our markets. People in this country will not invest as much in this environment. But most importantly, such a situation will lead to a higher probability of international incidents as this country will be too focused on these hearings and the international perception will be that we have fallen asleep at the wheel. I think it is no coincidence, for example, that Saddam is getting more aggressive of late. If we do not have much of a leader now, we will surely have none if he and the country are caught up in impeachment hearings.
