I assume from the above that your LEAPS are on individual stocks, not the XAU index.

Just for the record, folks who are thinking about buying LEAPS may be interested to know that the tax treatment for non-equity (index) options differs from equity options. Believe it or not, open positions in non-equity options must be marked to the market at the end of the calendar year. (Unless of course they've changed the rules since the last time I looked. Don't take my word for it -- ask an accountant.)
