On the other hand, this world-wide selloff is so extreme, it could signal a bottom of the world markets, at least for the short term.

Japan might be bottoming. Although down over 5% tonight the good news is that 14000 (actually about 13800) is holding. If it continues to hold this will be second time the market has been unable to break through.

Isn't there a saying (or maybe research) about government statistic being last to recognize a recession and that when the statistics identify the recession the market has hit bottom?
