Good morning Santiago,

I have a deep sorrow for those that were subjected to religious teachings that have caused so much emotional suffering in their lives. I was brought up under the teachings of Pentacostal doctrine and when I was young they were especially cruel in their methods of programming a young mind.

I wonder if this is(was) a matter of culture or times? I have talked to people of many different denominations,ie Baptists, Church of Christs, Pentecostals, Catholics, and others and all basically can say the same thing. NOT to say all people feel that way in their denominations, cause many grow up perfectly happy, but you know what I mean? As I look back over my raising, I can see where most of my problems in "church" were caused by myself.

Its funny that even today, I can remember getting taught NOT to do many things or I was going to hell, but I don't remember getting taught GRACE. So instead of YES in the LORD I was always hearing(at least in my mind) NO or go straight to hell.

Anyway your comments caught my eye this morning so sorry if I got in your way there.

God Bless,

dan

Hi Santiago,

I agree, a denomination whose foundation is based on don'ts can be oppressive. If we choose to obey God for the love of God we're free aren't we. It's like not wanting to hurt my wife or kids because I love them, in the same way I don't want to hurt my Saviour by my actions.
I believe I understand where you are coming from, and like Dan, we've probably seen that in a lot of different denominations. Legalism tends to destroy instead of nurture the message of Christ. Liberalism just doesn't even mention it (salvation/repentance), just go out and do your own thing. Traditions "making the laws of God of none effect" are right up there with the worst.
New Age is enticing and very real to it's ever growing membership. Their experiences and revelations are genuine to them and will only provoke laughter if we tell them they never happened.
I view it as a crash course on the occult in sheeps clothing.

God bless and keep you,
John
