Agree, a hundred percent. Long term, I'm personally convinced that the decline of journalism will prove to be a much graver loss than any damage currently being done to the Office of the President. The framers of the Constitution ensured the freedom of the press for a damned good reason: to act as the citizens' eyes on the government, defending against the abuses of power that once led to the Revolution against British colonial power. The media is disqualifying itself from this duty, and we are going to be much the poorer for it. Our democracy depends absolutely on a credible, responsible, free press -- not just a free press. The grab for ratings, by reducing everything to entertainment, is a terrible development.

This is a very sad day for America, whether or not you like this particular president. But you wouldn't know it, hearing the delight in the voices and words of our journalists. They don't even know that impeachment is an unutterably grave prospect that should be approached with extreme sobriety and caution. Bear in mind that, at this moment, 535 members of Congress are considering whether they should overturn the results of a free election conducted by a nation of more than 260 million citizens. That's a lot of power for us to place in the hands of our Congressional representatives. The press should be preparing itself to oversee this process on our behalf, but instead they are simply, stupidly feeding the frenzy.

P.S. With you, I also believe there will be a flight to cash toward the end of the day, as the report hits.
