The whole story... SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 11, 1998--Identix Inc. (ASE:IDX.A), a leader worldwide in live-scan systems and biometric identity verification systems, Friday announced the receipt of an order from the California Youth Authority (CYA) for approximately 70 Identix Bio-Sentinel(TM) Systems, a comprehensive staff-tracking system based on the TouchLock II(TM) single-finger fingerprint verification device and FingerLan III(TM) network operating system software. The order is valued at about $850,000. Installation of the systems has begun at 11 CYA facilities throughout California. According to the announcement by Identix Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Randall C. Fowler, the Bio-Sentinel System electronically monitors the movement of authorized individuals, including CYA staff and volunteers, into and out of the secured facilities. A precise record is maintained when a person enters the secured zone. An expected time for departure is established and actual departure is recorded. Bio-Sentinel also provides a means for creating employee and visitor ID badges with a digital color photograph and bar code identification number to simplify system access. CYA Project Manager Bill Goff commented: "Recent events have demonstrated the need in our institutions for a system to enhance the safety and security of staff, volunteers or other authorized visitors. Each of our designated entry/exit portal terminals will contain a TouchLock II fingerprint scanner to biometrically verify the identity of all personnel seeking entry or exit, along with the times of that entry to, or exit from, the institution. "At any time our security staff may obtain a printout to determine who is in the secured area, as well as account for those who have not left the secure zone when expected." Fowler concluded: "This contract is another example of the broad application of our products, and demonstrates the adaptability of our leading biometric technology. The Bio-Sentinel System will greatly enhance the safety and security of authorized entrants to the institutions by constantly monitoring who has entered and exited the CYA institutions. "Security staff will be able to instantly retrieve information on who has entered, who has entered and exited, or who has entered and not yet exited on the expected departure time, preventing an individual from remaining on the grounds past a previously scheduled time." Identix is a leader in designing, developing, manufacturing and marketing products for the capture and/or comparison of fingerprints for security, anti-fraud, law enforcement and other applications.
