The telecom equip market is hot, and it should continue to be so. But, in case no one has noticed, there has been a conspicuous decoupling between business and investment results, especially in smaller companies. Many of these stocks are very cheap, and LU might go shopping next month. But cheap can get cheaper, especially if we see actual deflation in the economy. There has already been deflation in the equity markets, as far as small caps go.

OT*** RE: Ciena--
At this market cap, CIEN is a very attractive take out target for *all* telecom equipment makers. It is a buy at $16.
In the 'Next Generation Network', optics will be plugged directly into ATM switches and digital cross connect switches. This DWDM technology is a *must have* for any telecom hardware provider. If TLABS doesn't bite, I wouldn't be surprised to see Cisco or NN interested .
