Looks like lot of connections being made that didn't exist before....only stands to reason that Vo/IP will play a part...Digitcom forming partnerships puts them in a good position to get a lot of the business

Alcatel Submarine Networks, an Alcatel Cable subsidiary specializing in undersea
communications systems has been awarded two contracts, totalling US$ 33 million, to supply and install a network between
Egypt, Syria and the Lebanon.

One contract is for a 760 km repeatered submarine link between Alexandria (Egypt) and Tartous (Syria) awarded by the
Arab Republic of Egypt National Telecommunications Organisation (ARENTO) and by the Syrian Telecommunications
Establishment (STE). The system called "Aletar", will operate at 2.5 Gbit/s over two fibre pairs.

The second project is called "Berytar" and will link Sa‹da, Beirut and Tripoli in the Lebanon, to Tartous. The contract was
awarded by STE and the Ministry of Post and Telecom (MOPT) of the Lebanon. The 170 km system will operate at 622
Mbit/s over two fibre pairs.
