Walter, re: SDL in IBD

The headline reads Chip Firm Turns It Around With Telecom Gear
The story goes on to say SDL was geared to research rather than production with its pump laser systems but is now concentrating on
sales to the telecom market. "They've got a new qualification from Lucent" , "Lucent is a very stringent (original equipment manufacture), and things look good". Sales of their 980 nanometer laser-SDL'S flagship product- should top $500 million by '03, up from just $45 million last year says analyst James Jungjojohn of CIBC.
Revenue this year should be $110 million and $155 million next year.
That compares with $94 million in '97. Second qtr. earns of $0.20 up 186% from a year ago. Revenue rose 20% to $25.9 million.
Analysts expect 50% increase to 69 cents a share in'98 and another 71% tp $1.18 in '99, First call says. Above information from IBD, Thurs, Sept 10. Hope it useful to you. K
