Tom, what a good post about the Semi's. Very informative, I have to read it more carefully tonight.

ABTE.. + 26%..I mentioned a short time ago that I was bullish on ABTE.. I was told that there were lots of problems with that company. Now I see that earnings are coming out on Tuesday, and I should have tracked this better since it would have made a nice "anticipatory upswing" today. I still don't pretend to know the problems of this company, but it was already battered 42% this month and is way off it's 20 high for the year. I'm thinking there is still upside left in this company before Tuesday.

For those newbies to this thread.. this anticipatory upswing is the result of the 'winning' opinion held by bulls before earnings come out. Usually one side wins CLEARLY as the bulls did today. It is usually apparent at the beginning of the trading session who are leading, bulls or bears. If the stock is down you have an anticipatory downswing and in most cases either leave the stock or go short/puts. The stock moves much more in this time frame (1-5 days before earnings) because traders who follow the stock are all thinking about earnings and how it will effect price movement in the short term. In these 'earnings plays' you DO NOT want to be a contrarian, but go in the direction of the trend.
