Everyone,

Over and above the strategic view that Marty has presented which I also hold; on a technical levelI think there are vast differences as well. The fastest SC reader that I could find is currently about 0.25 MBYTEs/sec compared to the WaveMeter that SS has publicly stated on this board can meter at 100 Mbits/sec. Besides nothing that I have read about SC technology shows even remote interest in metering content. Pay per view, yes, but how is having to put your card in every time you want to watch something more convenient than the wavemeter.

Lastly, it is al semantics, what is the Wavemeter other than a proprietory, dedicated microchip sitting on a "smart card": in this case the I/O system? If wave "executes" it will have done more than the whole smart card industry has managed for years: they cannot agree on an industry standard OS, so the chance of having a smartcard that works in all corners of the globe on all systems remains years away.

huff-huff
