Dow gains after Starr springs no surprises

NEW YORK, Sept 11 (Reuters) - The Dow industrials rose sharply late session Friday after independent counsel Kenneth Starr's report on the White House scandal was published.

The Dow rose more than 200 points before easing to 7780 points, up 165 at 1524 EDT/1924 GMT.

''The consensus I am hearing from the stock exchange floor is that there was no more new evidence in the report, that the case is weak,'' said Bill Allyn, head of trading at Jefferies & Co.
