Mr. K. That is not and never was my argument. The point that I was making is that there are serious lies, as in some of the ones I listed and trivial ones as in having an extra-marital affair -- well trivial unless you are Hillary Clinton. The difference is that the breach of faith was with Clinton's family -- not the nation. But in the lies I listed, the breach of faith was with the nation. What disturbs me most is that some people cannot fathom the distinction.

If, for example, Clinton were found to have used FBI files to further his personal political agenda (as has been alleged), I would view that in the most serious light. But these allegations are so trivial as to be laughable.

A couple of decades from now there will be some wonderful satires written about this episode. It is as if Jerry Springer has taken collective control of the special prosecutor's office. Think about the possibilities. You could have a special prosecutor appointed to each elected public official, whose job it would be to expose that individuals sexual peccadillos! Then they could go on public TV and lay out all of the embarrassing information (with a live audience of course) in a modern version of a Roman circus. The accused would have to perform a suitable act of public grovelling and suitable religious fervor and contrition. Be sincere, whether you mean it or not. Based on that performance the audience would respond with a thumbs up or thumbs down.

Brave New World!
