Mike - I must admit though that this Tower of Babel is somewhat bothersome to me as it must inevitably hinder the progress of wireless, confuse consumers, and generally be a pain in the behind.

Yea verily! But of course this is the result of the very same openness that allowed our favorite company to get a foot in. The polar opposite is, of course, fortress Europe.

PS I love the interview with Qualcomm. Qualcomm may not be as press savvy and they may not have the same ability to flood the media, but they certainly know how to cut to the quick. 'Let's do trials, and we'll concede on any piece if it can be shown that your standard is better at throughput!'. Black and white. Put up or shut up.

Surfer Mike,

now that Doug has given us a blow by blow description of the Starr report, may be attention can be shifted back to more important issues.

Japan is getting close to break point. Corporate earnings, GDP decline, unemployment .... are all very worrisome.

Looks like Krugman and his reflation idea is the right direction, but the road to recovery is going to be soooooo painful.

As for the markets, move over small investors. The big boys are now in the game. If your stomach can't handle daily 300 point DOW swings and the NASD equivalent, I suggest the other form of self inflicted torture aka what the natives call golf.
