Someone on one of the Kahuna threads (yes-call me Mama Bear) mentioned that a co-worker walked by and said-"How's the market doing?" and he said-"Up 70", which at that brief moment in time it happened to be, and she said, happily reassured, "Oh, good!" and walked on. All my friends who invest, and probably do lots better than you and I, bought mutual funds and Coke, MOT, IBM and utilities and never look again.
But where's the fun?
As for idealism. Ah, my sweet Gaugie. When Dan was being interviewed by big lawfirms all over the country, we were wined and dined royally, and one night in a 5 star restaurant in some major city, I asked, all innocence, do you allow time for pro bono work? And several people SNICKERED at me!!!! Someone recovered and quickly said, Oh yes, we do. I know now why I was so rudely jeered- but at the time, I really believed that something needed to be given back. That it was part of the deal. Ah well---
I do own IMGN--cancer research. That's my tithe to investment morality.

<<Back when Intel was 49, as you and I remember so well, Alex, I wanted to "invest" in companies, ideas and production that will "build the future". >>

Had the same vision when Dell was $14. Was gonna buy a thousand shares but the wife wanted a horse barn that cost 14 large. That horse ain't worth near as much as the Dell is.
