Hi Fli-by, I received the following message from Harry Hargens. I should have checked before suggesting that there would be catalogs available. It is important right now to have Harry concentrate on starting the business. I think that it is reasonable to have a charge for sending the catalog. What do you think? Here is his memo: September 11, 1998 Scoobey-Do: "I'm quickly learning that you are our "Siliconinvestor connection". I see that you suggested that we might be able to send copies of the SWYW catalog to investors that request them, and I've already gotten one fax making such a request. As a result, I think you need to post this letter. "Since the catalog is all 4-color, it will not xerox or fax well at all; so the only way for someone to see how the catalog looks is for us to send them one of the actual catalogs. I would love to share the catalogs freely with everyone who is interested; but, since we are still a start-up company with a tight budget, we did not print a lot of extra catalogs. Further, because we printed only a small quantity of catalogs this first time around, the cost per catalog was high. As a result, we are not in a position to offer to mail out catalogs at no charge to anyone who requests one. "What we can do, is set aside 30 catalogs (that's about all we can spare), and mail these to the first 30 people that send a check for $15 to help cover some of the printing and mailing costs. I know this may sound a little cheesy, but I don't see any other easy way to "ration" the available catalogs. "As I've previously written, we printed two versions of the catalog; one with the LA Dodgers pages, and one without. I think we can spare more of the "without" versions, so that is what we will send. "Anyone wanting a SWYW catalog should mail a check for $15, made out to "Shop While You Wait", to; Shop-While-You-Wait 98 Shoreline Way Hampton, GA 30228 Regards, Harry Hargens President, SWYW "P.S. I see that the question, "How will catalogs be distributed", has been asked several times. I'd like to re-iterate and expand on what you've said in response. The SWYW concept is to offer convenience and time-savings to consumers, by allowing them to "shop while they wait". SWYW allows consumers to enter orders into SWYW Paymaster terminals in lobbies, waiting rooms, etc.; so the SWYW catalogs will be FIRMLY attached to the SWYW terminals, with a bead chain or whatever. "SWYW will create a new distribution channel for catalog merchandisers, not compete with them; a year from now, we hope to have dozens (hundreds?) of brand name merchandisers using SWYW as a vehicle to sell their merchandise, through thousands of SWYW locations; so we don't plan to do anything like mass mailing catalogs, which would compete with existing sales methods. "P.P.S Another very good question that's been asked, is why not post the catalog on the web? We do plan to create a web site that supports SWYW, and allows consumers to go home and order over the web what they saw in our catalog at the SWYW terminal. But we need to focus our resources this year on launching the SWYW system that makes us unique, and create a supporting web site next year." To BETT Shareholders, I feel that it is an honor for both Tom and Harry to review our SI thread and give us feedback whenever possible. It is important that you add our thoughts to the thread to give them feedback in return. With everyone working together, these companies should be a huge success. Go BETT!! Scoobey
