Old news, but the last paragraph highlights part of AXC's present business strategy I think.

<<REDWOOD CITY, Calif., July 27, 1998 -- Ampex Corporation has introduced a new data recorder that enables users to store and forward ATM telecommunications through its SONET-compatible interface.

The new DIST 162i is also designed for telemetry, radar, simulation, remote sensing and imaging applications.ÿ Its recording capabilities allow for 50, 150 or 330GB native capacity per small, medium or large tape cartridge, and a sustained computer data transfer rate of 20MB/sec.

Based on Ampex's innovative integration of both instrumentation and SCSI-2 interfaces, the DIS 162i recorder provides real-time data acquisition at any rate from zero to 160Mb/sec with simultaneous data migration to a computer mass storage environment.ÿ The company's advanced read-write technology ensures that data is stored and reproduced with maximum fidelity.

The entire DIS product line is format compatible with all Ampex DIS and DSTr drives and automated cartridge libraries, while offering interface compatibility with the widely used ruggedized Ampex DCRsiT instrumentation system.ÿ As a result, users can benefit from a fully-integrated, adaptable and cost effective data management solution from a single vendor. >>

Personally pondering whether or not to buy more next week. A Nobel Prize winning proctologist would have a hard time finding AXC's bottom lately...... but I do like the 2 year odds hereabouts.
