Ericsson introduces S 868 dual band mobile phone

Ericsson introduces the S 868, a new mobile phone offering advanced dual band
capabilities. Working on both GSM 900 and GSM 1800 networks, the S 868
improves international roaming and reduces the occurrence of dropped calls.

With GSM subscription continuing to expand globally, Ericsson's S 868 dual
band phone is designed to prevent network overload on GSM 900 and GSM 1800
networks. The phone allows for seamless handover between the networks and
offers heavy users better roaming and call efficiency. The
S 868 is a GSM Phase 2 phone and has advanced features such as Enhanced Full
Rate (EFR) speech coding, which provides the user with speech and reception
quality comparable to that of fixed line phones.

"The demand for dual band mobile phones will be very strong by the turn of the
millennium. GSM network operators are already feeling the heat of overloaded
networks and they're looking for solutions. Ericsson's S 868 provides
operators with the ability to solve capacity problems," said Jan Ahrenbring,
Vice President Marketing and Communications, Ericsson Mobile Communications.
"For mobile phone users, the dual band capabilities and EFR voice technology
are a potent combination that makes the Ericsson S 868 a top-of-the-line
mobile telephony product."

Mobile phone users today are becoming more demanding and require better
service from operators and phone manufacturers. One of the last things they
want to experience are problems with an overloaded network. The S 868, using
both GSM 900 and GSM 1800 frequencies, allows network operators to increase
capacity in densely populated urban areas and improve coverage. The switching
of the two systems is done automatically so that the mobile phone user won't
notice it.

The S 868 is equipped with many of the same features and software as the SH
888, Ericsson's flagship dual band phone, with the difference being that the
SH 888 also utilizes infrared technology and an in-built PC card. With a
sturdy magnesium frame and a stylish gray color, the S 868 offers up to 6
hours and 40 minutes of talk time or 120 hours of standby. The S 868 supports
a wide range of GSM services such as Conference Call, Alternate Line Service,
Advice of Charge/Charging and Fixed Dialing Numbers. A full range of matching
accessories with a 1-year world-wide warranty are also available.

Other features of the Ericsson S 868 dual band phone:

@ Last Dialed Number to reach the last 15 dialed numbers
@ Received Calls to show the last 10 received calls
@ Missed Calls to show the last 10 missed calls
Phone Book to store 99 numbers with accompanying names in addition to those on
the SIM card
@ 15 ring signals, including melodies and Own Melody
Compatible with Ericsson Mobile Data products like MC 16, DI 27 and DC 23
@ Weighs 172 g with kit battery

The Ericsson S 868 dual band phone is available across many European countries
mid-October 1998 and will be available on all GSM 900 and 1800 markets
worldwide.
