I believe you're underestimating both the seriousness of the situation and the effect. I believe "President Gore" is no longer a question of "if", but one of "when"; that is why I started this thread. Since you are only the second poster besides me since its inception, it's obvious no one cares; most likely everyone is busy reading The Report for their Friday night cheap thrills. We are condemned to repeat history when we do not learn from it. The markets do not operate in a political vacuum, or do you not remember the last true bear market of 1973-1974 during the throes of Watergate?

You are correct that a "President Gore" will accomplish little or nothing, but the psychological pall he will cast over the markets will take its toll, nonetheless. Let us, then, prepare.
