Any idea how much the paid to buy these guys out? No way the software could cost any more than a couple $100k to rewrite from scratch. I would not think Amazon or Excite will get any kind of price increases/improved margins out of disabling these comparison shopping bots. There will probably be another couple of versions of these bots out on the net next week, esp. if they think they can get bought out for mega millions.

Will it ever end?

Derrick

The idea that you can buy up a couple of companies that have developed web Shop Bot systems and, therefore, stem the tide of that technology is ludicrous. It's like saying "our customers are too stupid to see that we are really not out to make the best use of the internet to benefit them . . . we can just make it LOOK like we provide comparison shopping while we actually just point them in the direction we want them to go - toward our chosen suppliers and high prices." This strategy simply won't work well. It's like 'Detroit Buggy Company' saying, "we will buy up anyone making buggies with those new fangled gasoline engines in them, strip out the engines and sell them as automobiles - the stupid public will never know the difference." The benfits of putting the engine in the vehicle are too great and the relative ease of developing and implementing this technology is such as to make it multiply on the web over the next few years. If Amazon tries to subvert the usefulness of web bots, their chirade will be either ignored or seen for the dis-service that it is - competitors will eat their lunch!
