NCT Expands ClearSpeech Suite of Technology With Voice Verification
Algorithm

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 17, 1998--Noise Cancellation Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: NCTI - news) today introduced the
ClearSpeech(tm) Voice Verification algorithm, a superior technology for voice biometrics. The Company intends to license this algorithm in combination with its
ClearSpeech(tm) noise cancellation algorithm to create fraud prevention applications. The ClearSpeech(tm) Voice Verification algorithm is now available for
licensing directly from the Company.

Voice verification fraud prevention is particularly useful for wireless and cellular applications where cloning, theft and subscription fraud occur; network applications
where calling card, toll-free, subscription and call forwarding fraud is perpetrated; and financial institutions and commercial institutions where applications such as
remote banking, credit card transactions, ATM transactions, securities trading and wire transfers create fraud vulnerability. Credit card fraud alone costs over $1.5
billion annually and figures for network fraud are approaching $3 billion annually.

''Voice verification has tremendous advantages over conventional security measures because it utilizes a voice print which cannot be reproduced by others,'' said
Michael J. Parrella, President. ''For example, by integrating a microphone with ClearSpeech Voice Verification onto a credit card, we can determine whether or not
the holder of the card is the owner. When the card is initially issued it is loaded with words spoken by the owner. Each time the card is used the holder must repeat
these words and the algorithm computes a probability match. If credit card companies were to use a system comprising NCT's silicon micromachined microphone,
NCT's ClearSpeech Voice Verification and NCT's newly announced Java chip for smart cards, fraudulent credit card usage could be virtually eliminated.''

The ClearSpeech Voice Verification algorithm is a low-cost solution that runs on a simple DSP (digital signal processor), the Java Card environment and personal
computers. Unlike existing voice verification technology, the ClearSpeech algorithm works reliably in noisy environments.

The ClearSpeech suite of technologies includes noise and echo cancellation algorithms for dramatically improved voice quality, and voice verification and speech
compression algorithms.

NCTI is a leading technology developer with an extensive portfolio of proprietary algorithms and a wide variety of product offerings for consumer, commercial and
industrial applications. The Company specializes in the utilization of sound and signal waves to reduce noise, improve signal-to-noise ratio and enhance sound quality.
