Dog - It is good to see that Compaq is working on its web site.

What about the direct market catalogue business? I went to site that rates cataloguers:

mediacentral.com

Guess who the #1 cataloguer is? Dell.
Guess who the #2 cataloguer is? Gateway.
Guess where Compaq is? Below the charts - nowhere to be found.

Here it is:
Dell Computer Corp. was once again the cataloger to beat. With sales of nearly $11.95 billion, a 58% leap from last year, the hardware, software, and peripherals behemoth alone accounted for 44% of the revenue of the computer catalogers on the list, and nearly one-fifth of the total sales of the top 100. Internet sales of more than $4 million a day further confirmed Dell's dominance.

I have to admit, I get Dell catalogues all the time (even though I haven't bought anything in years) and they are very well done. Usually coming out just before CPQ announcements, they try to steal the show by showing off the latest merchandise at low prices just before announcements by others. A kill for these guys would be to publish a exact clone of their catalogue a day before they publish.

I just got back from a magazine/catalogue publishing conference where everyone was encouraged to steal any competitors ideas that work. It's the standard for the industry, used every day, and it works.

Do you know if CPQ is going to address this issue or is even aware of it?
