Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward coming out on CNN and say this is
not impeachable, not treason, not high crimes-their words- that puts it to rest for me.

President Carter endorsed legislation to promote the conversion of coal to fuel oil. They built whole towns and conversion plants in Western Colorado to convert the coal. The plan was not economically sound. Those towns are empty wrecks now and the plants have been shut down for a decade. In the end the free market always make the final judgment.

If you'll allow me a "Yes, but....", I would note that diesel is now coming under some considerable scrutiny by the air pollution people. I don't pretend to understand everything I know about the subject, but it appears that there are some specific toxic/carcinogenic ingredients found in most current diesel fuels (Benzene comes to mind). In addition there is the issue of particulate matter in the exhaust, which can be a major problem in some areas (Northern Nevada for instance).

So, I would hate to see the "greens" come down in a blanket fashion upon any and all diesel fuels, even if the cleaner fuel does not contain the bad stuff.

Governments, bureaucrats, and professional naysayers seem to have a tendency to try to wrap up everything in one big bundle ... throwing the baby out with the bathwater, as it were.
