"You can't fight basic economics" is a dictum that has been proven. Consumers want products that they are seeking (over 65% of web purchases are for a specific item rather than just "window shopping") at the best combination of price and service. For generic products where after-sale service is usually irrelvant, price is very important. Saving 50c may not be very important to most consumers but saving $50 per month or taking pride in getting the "best deal" on the web is.

As IBM, Arthur Anderson and other studies have pointed out, price competition, both as a "built-in" mechanism of the internet and in the form of sophisticated Web Shop Bots, is creating a climate where extremely low margins through price competition is prevalent. This is ALREADY the case at this early stage of e-commerce development as is witnessed by low margins of every major e-tailer - with Amazongonenutty.com leading the way!
