Don't be nervous about monday, it's all over but the shouting. Nothing will happen to Clinton, except maybe, this time, he'll get a tongue lashing from Congress.

Agreed...Republicans don't want to impeach Clinton; it's much better for them to have a wounded president. Republicans will do extremely well this November...the Clinton-haters will show up to vote, everyone else will stay home.

We can look forward to a 2-year respite from government.

<<this time, he'll get a tongue lashing from Congress. >> He's had too many tongue lashings already, don't you think ?

I suspect that Bill and Hill are going to be up to their ears in legal bills before this is all through. Accordingly, it might be nececessary to have one of those benefit concerts for them, you know, maybe "'Sex Aid" instead of Farm Aid. Maybe the opening song could be"Why Don't We Do It In the Road?"

I am not sure how the President will ever be able to restore that moral authority he lost. That's the key. He may be able to argue his way out of the legal part. But being a President of the United States, will he still be able to hang his head high in the after math of all those sexual details ? Would a foreign head or a congressman be comfortable to talk to him on the phone again that nobody had that bizare picture of oral sex in mind ?

Besides, he technically really lied under oath. Maybe by his own perception that oral sex is not a sexual relationship, but who would accept that kind of argument other than himself ? So I think the system has got him this time. The system has been set up by his political enemies that first made him testify under oath and then ask him questions purposely that the lawers already know the answers.

I am not sure a censure by the congress alone is going to do the work. To me, the only logic and high road for Mr. Clinton to take at this moment is to resign and let Al Gore take over, hopefully Al Gore is competent enough to continue whatever are the successful elements of his policies.

I spent almost 4 good years in Arkansas and I have met Clinton before even he became the President. I still believe he is a good man and a good President. What he did for the good of the country, such as raising the taxes of rich people in 92 to balance the budget, fighting against tobacco and gun organizations have earned him respect, but also made him very hated by others. His various friends and cabinet memebers already paid a heavy price for all these goods he has done. Now it comes to his term. Those who hated him got him too this time.

I also agree with another post that if he resigns soon, the market might actually get a boost because of less "uncertainty" and be able to focus on eceonomy alone. But the problem is, in my view, the failure of the presidency will have a chilling effect over the long term that no body or fewer people even seek for a political career in the future. This might threaten the very base of the existence of democracy in this country and foretell the slide of the country's standing in the whole world.

Don't take me wrong. What happened to Clinton is the making of his own mistake and wrong doing. But what makes people so chilling is that somebody could spend $40 million and zoom into every aspect of his life, both public and private, past and present. Who in this world don't have some arguable shadows in the past ? Who would be able to say everything and do everything exactly correct ? Who would be able to survive a long lasting $40 million investigation without showing some kind of embarrassing history in his or her past ?

I am worried. Not only for the short term, I am also worried about the long term effects to this country and the democratic process. The failure of Clinton presidency also seem to tell people "dare you raise the taxes of rich people," "Dare you fight agaisnt the big tabacco," "Dare you campaign for gun control" ...
