The interesting part of your post re: 1929 is why you say the market in Singapore went from 2000 to 800. Your quote "We have been living beyond our means for too long, and reality has caught up with us" could apply to this country as well. The primary similarities to 1929 that people see is overpriced stocks, widespread interest in the markets, and people living beyond their needs through massive debt, both public and private. There are those who argue that living beyond our means will eventually catch up with us as well.
