Mr. Peter DeLancey reports
The 1998 drill program on the Wolf property has been completed. A total of
6,625 metres (21,730 feet) were drilled in 30 holes. Results for holes
WF98-16 to 25 have been released previously; results for holes WF98-25 to
40 are tabulated below. Additional drill hole assay results will be
released when available.
Drill hole WF98-26, which intersected the deposit 75 metres down dip from
WF98-25, returned grades of 6.3 per cent zinc, 1.4 per cent lead and 71.8
g/t silver over a true thickness of 5.2 metres. Holes WF98-27 and 28 were
drilled on the western, up dip area of the deposit and intersected thick
intervals of low grade massive sulphide mineralization in the main lens and
more moderate grades and thicknesses in the footwall zones.
WF98-30, 31 and 32 form a fence of 50 metre spaced drill holes to test the
eastern and down dip area of the Wolf deposit. All three holes intersected
massive sulphide mineralization that is generally characterized by higher
lead and silver grades with lower zinc values. The sulphide mineralization
is diluted by the presence of barite which typically forms a discrete zone
below the sulphides in other holes. It is possible that these features
indicate proximity to the original vent area and that the mineralization in
this area formed on a slight paleo-topographic high. The deposit in the
area of these holes, as well as WF98-25 and 26, is in a down dropped fault
block that has been displaced 65 metres downwards from the rest of the
deposit.
Hole WF98-35 approximately 60 metres east of WF97-10 showed an improvement
from the WF97-10 intersection and indicates that the deposit is open to the
east.
Drill hole WF98-33 was the first hole to successfully test the East Slope
mineralized area which is 1,200 metres along strike east of the Wolf
deposit. This hole intersected a 140 metre thick sequence of mineralized
felsic pyroclastic rocks including three massive sulphide zones. The upper
zone correlates with the main Wolf deposit, while the other zones are
probably correlative with the two Wolf footwall zones. The presence of
these three mineralized zones within a sequence of intensely altered and
mineralized wall rocks indicates significant exploration potential for the
intervening area between the Wolf deposit and the East Slope zone. WF98-34
was drilled approximately 60 metre down dip from WF98-33 and intersected
two narrow mineralized zones; the lowermost zone is truncated by a trachyte
sill. Additional drilling will be required to determine the potential of
the East Slope area.
Drill holes WF98-38, 39 and 40 were drilled down dip in the east-central
area of the Wolf deposit and confirm that the higher grade core of the
deposit extends downwards with a slight, easterly rake. These three holes
intersected strong massive sulphide mineralization with WF98-39
intersecting the thickest interval.
The Wolf deposit has a strike length of 600 metres and a down dip length of
approximately 450 metres. Overall, the drill results demonstrate good
continuity of the sulphide deposit which remains open for further testing
next year.
