His addiction is classic, he is responding to low self worth. This is very common amongst those that grow up in a broken or abusive family. The loss of his father prior to BC's birth, in combination with an alcoholic step father created the setting for a veiled lack of self esteem----until we see behind the closed doors. Yes he needs help, and he doesn't know it.
