It does when you trade 1000 shares or more but the commission gets cumbersome when you only want to do 100 or 200 shares.

Here is some information on Fidelity's Gold Circle Stock Commission Schedule. These rates were effective 7-17-98. Eligibility Minimum balance of $20,000 and 72+ stock, bond or option trades in calendar year. Online Rates $14.95 for the first 1,000 shares plus $.02 for each additional share Maximum 5% of principal, subject to the minimum Minimum $14.95 Limit and Stop Orders: No additional charge Representative-assisted Rates $25.00 for the first 1,000 shares plus $.02 for each additional share Maximum 5% of principal, subject to minimum Minimum $25 Limit and stop orders: No additional charge.
