I agree with that. But a system is made up of many things. In our system, most things are for profit. But some things aren't and shouldn't be. Should we run our military as a money-making venture? Our public schools? Our highways? Our medical research? Our emergency rooms?

See, one of the major benefits of a democracy is that the people can vote to provide some of the benefits of living in civilization to all citizens, regardless of ability to pay. I would hope that we chose those common benefits based on enlightened self-interest: education for all helps decreased the idiot supply; health care for all makes it less likely I will catch a communicable disease (tuberculosis, once thought conquered, is growing again in our cities due to lack of access to health care by the poor); roads for all means we can get away from "them" when they come to get us . . . etc. etc. etc.
