Can you imagine how flattered I am that you ask about chess? Or, how dismayed to have to own up to being a rotten player? Could it be that my physical brain is lacking a certain spatial/dimensional capacity that denies me the pleasures of the dynamic cavortings chess gives its masters? Do you have any idea of how thrilled I would be to be able to repeat the sensations I have experienced less than a half dozen times - of having felt the pieces come alive, and attack and defend their kings with loyalty, sacrifice and heroism? You don't? May I count the ways? One? Two? Three? Numberless? None of the above? Sixty-six? Sixty-six sounds pretty good, doesn't it? Or is that the name of a Route? Or, when added to a Route, the name of a song? Oh my, the song gives kicks, doesn't it? And I was counting thrills, wasn't I? Are thrills anything like kicks? Words count, don't they? Too high a count and they can total up to numbness and plaff, isn't that true? Isn't it quite obvious that all of the above words produce numbness and plaff? What is plaff? Can one become so numb as not to recognize plaff? Or even care? Are you as numb as I at this moment? How numb am I? Plaff, yes? Plaff numb? Is that dumb? Will you shut up (reflexive)? Why not?
