Hi, Yes it was tounge and cheek.

You points are well taken. Net Nanny is not censorship but caution. Children must be potected from themselves, and others that would take advantage of them. I remember purchasing plastic plugs that would insert into electrical sockets, I turn the pot handles toward the back of the stove, I lock up cleaning fluids, medication, etc, etc. I took these steps to protect the trusting, and innocent ones I have taken responsibility. If I were fast, and knew in advance I could insert plastic plugs only into the electrical sockets that the child would stick something into thus saving lots of time and some money. These steps and Net Nanny are only preventative measures while I am away. I remember reading of a child chewing on a power line for the television. Parents are not Omnipotent, and Omnipresent. We can only take preventative, cautious steps to protect our charges.

Children are not our property. Parents only rent them, and after a while must return them to their owner, themselves. Even when you rent a car reasonable care, and preventative steps are taken to protect the car. If you abuse the rental car, you are charged for repairs, etc. I view Net Nanny as reasonable care, and prevention.

IMHO,

Lawrence

Hi Gerry,

Nanny isn't censorship, but, in fact a reasonable tool for choice of choosing what material, when and who controls the info made available on the net. Nanny is completely user friendly and self controlled, you can designate which material or sites for viewing, thus, preview it yourself first, then decide whether its suitable for your children. Censorship is NO choice in what is available.
