Care for a perspective from a new 3D card buyer?

I'm currently in the market for - you guessed it - a good 3D video accelerator. I currently own a PPro 200, so I don't have an AGP port, and I'm running on 2MB VRAM. Basically, I'm in dire need of an upgrade, in the neighborhood of $100-200.

Now I could go with a Diamond Monster II 12MB - definitely a nice option and probably my best for 3D. However that leaves me a bit lacking on the 2D scene, and even if I were to buy a cheap 4MB 2D card, the whole passthrough cable thing isn't so hot at 1280x1024, which is the 2D resolution at which I expect to flex my new 19" monitor. The possibility of SLI would be nice, but considering I don't have AGP in the end I would be using -3- PCI slots for video, and that's just absurd.

The solution? Definitely a 2D/3D combo board. So it boils down to - that's right - the TNT and the Banshee. Both TNT and Banshee offer similar performance, video modes, etc. Banshee would give me Glide acceleration and a cheaper price tag. TNT would give me headaches. So based on the knowledge that's currently available, the choice is simple - BUY A PCI BANSHEE SINCE IT'S THE BEST AND CHEAPEST SOLUTION. I will, however, wait to see who else starts making Banshee boards - maybe Diamond's won't be the strongest of the flock.

Either way, 3Dfx is a surefire winner. Could it be any simpler?

-G
