Hi Trey:

I agree with you. I suspect that somehow traders were so fixated at the spectacle in Washington that they missed the most important news event of the day (in global, non-US terms).

The MSNBC poll is obviously disastrous for Clinton, but probably highly unrepresentative.

Most of the polls I heard about are rather mixed, if not contradictory. They are only positive as far as Clinton's job performance is concerned. But there also seems to be a clear majority asking for the impeachment process to continue. These early polls are probably completely unreliable. Most people still think that it is just about sex (Kendall's strategy), but I somehow doubt that he will be able to keep that line for much longer. Also politician's are not interested in the opinion of the uninformed, non-voting majority but the better informed, voting minority. From what I heard, some Republicans have started to hit hard. It will be important when/if some Democrats join them.

I also think that Kendall has given Clinton some pretty lousy advice lately. I have serious doubts that most Americans will tolerate that Clinton perjured himself again in his August testimony (provided they realize that).

If the polls start to turn against Clinton by tomorrow and we see some interesting action in Japan, Monday could turn bloody.

Good trading,

Phil
