<<Thanks, Phil. I know what BTO is, and Apple's lack of BTO availability for some models doesn't concern me. I simply posted the entire paragraph from MacNN, and it listed some BTO info as well the other more serious availability problems with Apple desktop and PowerBook models.>> As Jobs admitted before, we all know there are a couple weeks of lead time for delivery due to the popularity of models. The situation seems to continue. Well, this is also part of optimization problems - how to use limited resources to manufacture and allocate the products. Every company more or less has the similar problems. I think DELL has done the best in the PC group.<<While I agree wholeheartedly with your assertion that it's better to have demand exceeding supply, this is an age-old problem with Apple's manufacturing and demand forecasting abilities. At least they seem to have fixed one aspect of the problem -- making too many of the models that don't sell well.>> This is purely a forecasting issue. So far, I have no enough data to justify how efficiently Apple performs. However, it's almost impossible to predict exactly right (demand=supply in any given time in any given location).<<My point in posting the original message was that I simply don't believe your revenue forecasts to be in line with reality, given the lack of availability for so many Mac models. Believe me, I'd love to be wrong on this count, and I hope Apple is making enough of every model to satisfy demand. However, it looks to me as though Apple still can't make enough of their high margin, high profit computers and may have sacrificed many of them for the iMac. I hope this situation clears up very soon and there are enough Mac models to go around for everyone.>> The only difference between mine and Eric's was the volume sold on iMac model. Any models other than iMac I just picked up from Eric's estimate. Of course, they are not zero-sum game in various models sales volume, but, more or less they are affected one another. I wouldn't know the details regarding their dependency. I wish I had more inside info to explain in details. Phil
