I wonder what someone else would have done in the same situation??

1.You get caught and confess all at the first opportunity.

2.You realize the gravity of what you have done and its consequences
you try to postpone the inevitable reckoning and you hope your accusers (ie. Starr et al)have enough class to proceed with a balanced review instead of a vendetta.

Clinton was focusing too much on Starr and not on what he actually did. This shows his inherent weakness and is another reason for his resignation.
